Human-Powered Vehicle Student Project
The Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) Competition is an annual contest
sponsored by ASME. In it, teams from schools within ASME's Region IX,
which includes California, Nevada, and Hawaii, design, manufacture, and
race vehicles. The designs are judged through oral presentation, a
sprint race, and a road race, using the criteria of design innovation,
safety, and performance.
The 1995 team of six, led by Dave Auble, had a most exciting experience in San Diego participating in the competition, which was held in late April. Our unique design featured a pendulum-style pedaling system and a prone riding position. The competition provided an excellent opportunity to take engineering ideas from paper to a finished product, including the testing and presentation. Some added benefits of the experience were the opportunity to work as a team and the chance to hang out in San Diego!
Anyone interested in joining the team should contact one of the ASME Student Chapter officers.
